Man throwing wooden stakes at cars on Route 48 arrested on felony criminal mischief charge

A 37-year-old Peconic man who was throwing wooden stakes at passing cars on Route 48 last night was arrested on a felony criminal mischief charge.

Police found Fabian Cojon standing in the center median of Route 48 in Mattituck last night around 7 p.m. throwing wooden roadway stakes at passing vehicles, including one westbound vehicle that was struck in the driver’s side door.

Police charged Cojon with criminal mischief in the third degree, a class E felony, and reckless endangerment in the second degree, a misdemeanor.

Cojon was transported to Southold Police Department Headquarters and held overnight for arraignment.
