More than 300 people turned out for the 8th Annual “Rockin’ for the Homeless” event last night at Polish Hall in Riverhead. Volunteers served up hamburgers, hot dogs and kielbasa to guests who danced the night away to the sounds of Gene Casey and the Lone Sharks, Who Art Those Guys and Boot Scoot Boogie.

The event raised more than $10,000 for John’s Place Mattituck, a homeless outreach group that operates out of Mattituck Presbyterian Church.  The group funds two overnight homeless shelters per week on the North Fork in the Maureen’s Haven program, according to event organizers. It also helps homeless people with needs such as money for medicine and housing deposits.
