The East End Arts Gallery has announced an open call for artist participation in the upcoming juried art show, “Art of the Non-Dominant Hand,” at the East End Arts Gallery. The show will run from Friday, April 29 through June 10, 2016.
The call is open to artwork created in painting, pastel and drawing media, with the artist using the non-dominant hand to create the work, meaning that an artist who is typically right-handed would, on their honor, create a piece entirely with their left hand – or visa versa.
The guest juror for this show is Mark Humphrey of Mark Humphrey Gallery in Southampton, NY.
East End Arts Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood says: “If you cheat and use your dominant hand you won’t get the experience of accessing a new and different component of your creativity. This is an exploration guaranteed to surprise and delight all who attempt an entry.”
Original works in painting, pastel and drawing media only may be submitted; up to three entries can be submitted per artist. All submissions will be reviewed by the guest juror, who will choose a select number of works that he feels uses to advantage the awkwardness of the unsteady hand, and those pieces will be included in the exhibit.
All media entries must be dropped off in person at the East End Arts Gallery on one of these dates:
· Thursday, April 21, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
· Friday, April 22, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
· Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The “Best in Show” winner of this show will be one of several artists who will participate in the East End Arts Gallery’s Winners’ Show in the Fall of 2017. First, Second, Third Place, and Honorable Mentions will also be awarded.
An opening reception will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m., when guests will have an opportunity to meet the artists.
This free event is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
