A winter storm warning in effect from 6 p.m. this evening to 10 a.m.Monday.

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow in eastern Suffolk County and in New London County in Connecticut.

Moderate to occasionally heavy snow will accumulate to between four and eight inches, the weather service said. North to northeast winds may gust up to 20 mph at the coast. Visibilities will be reduced to one-quarter to one-half mile at times during the storm. The snow and reduced visibilities will result in hazardous travel conditions.

A mix of light rain and snow at the onset this evening will quickly change to all snow and continue through the night until tapering off Monday morning, according to the weather service forecast. Highs on Monday will warm into the mid-40s.
