Snow throughout the day Saturday and into the late evening hours is expected to accumulate up to three inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow will fall throughout the day Saturday beginning in the late morning hours, but it won’t be until temperatures dip below freezing after sunset that it will begin to accumulate. A few hours of evening snow will accumulate upwards of one to three inches before tapering off before midnight, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Tim Morrin.

“We’re primarily looking at the very late afternoon and early evening for the highest chances of snow accumulation,” Morrin said in an interview this morning. “That’s when the sun’s angle gets lower.”

Though snow is unlikely to stick on the roadways during the daytime, evening snowfall could make for hazardous travel Saturday night, Morrin said.

“There will probably be some slippery driving,” he said.

The spring snow will likely melt throughout the day Sunday, when temperatures will reach 44 degrees. “That’s significantly below average – our normal high for that day is 55 or 56 – but it’s well above freezing,” Morrin said.
