A Connecticut man was found dead in Orient this morning after going missing on the Long Island Sound overnight, according to police.

An Orient resident was awakened shortly before 4 a.m. by voices yelling for help from the beach in front of their house.

Police found Delfina Reynoso, 26, of Connecticut and her 8-year-old daughter on the beach.

Reynoso and her daughter launched a kayak and stand-up paddle-board from Hammonasset Park in Madison, Connecticut the previous evening, according to police. They were accompanied by Abdias Ventura, age 30, of Hartford, Connecticut and Ferdinand Lagos, age 39 of Manchester Connecticut.

Wind and tide pushed the watercraft offshore by 9 p.m. Sunday night, police said.

Ventura’s body was found about a quarter-mile away from where Reynoso and her daughter washed ashore. A body matching Lagos’ description was found this afternoon in the Long Island Sound, approximately five miles offshore from the Connecticut River.

Southold Police as well as Cutchogue, Southold, Greenport, East Marion and Orient Fire Departments assisted the United States Coast Guard in its search.
