Get hungry: Lucharitos is holding its first-ever hot dog eating contest tomorrow

How many hot dogs can you eat in 10 minutes? Lucharitos in Greenport wants you to test your limits in its first-ever hot dog eating contest.

The popular eatery is teaming up with Coney Island Brewing Company to challenge 10 participants to eat as many hotdogs as they possibly can tomorrow night at the Main Street restaurant.

Eight out of 10 contestant slots are filled so far, owner Marc LaMaina said.

“If we don’t get a 10th by tomorrow night I might throw my hat into the ring,” LaMaina said. “Hopefully I don’t wind up on the floor in the fetal position.”

The grand prize will be a Brooklyn Cyclones jersey and two tickets to a Cyclones game, with a $100 gift certificate to Lucharitos for the runner-up. Each participant will also receive a T-shirt and a keychain.

The event will be similar to the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest held every Fourth of July in Coney Island, where the brewery is based.

“We’re making about 200 dogs, so there should be enough for everyone to have at least a dozen if it comes down to it,” LaMaina said.

He also had a word of advice to share with his potential opponents: “Skip out on dinner tonight.”

The contest is free to enter and begins at 8 p.m.
