More than 60 Long Island string students will play under the baton of internationally acclaimed violin virtuoso and maestro Itzhak Perlman next Thursday, July 28 at Southold High School. The open rehearsal begins at 5:30 p.m.

Students from across Long Island ages 8 through 18 studying violin, viola, cello, and double bass have been rehearsing throughout the month of July under the direction of EEA faculty member Jeannie Woelker in preparation for the open rehearsal opportunity.

“This is truly a remarkable experience for our talented local students,” East End Arts education director Diane Giardi said. ”We are honored to collaborate with the Perlman Music Program again this year.”

This rehearsal is the fifth year of this collaborative project with the Perlman Music Program and is open to the public, thanks to an introduction from Içim and Mark Miller of Miller Environmental in 2012.  It is a special opportunity for youth string players to collaborate with students from the Perlman Music Program’s student orchestra, comprised of outstanding international student musicians.

Perlman’s student orchestra and chorus will perform following the free open rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are required for the 7:30 concert. More information about this performance can be found at the Perlman Music Program’s website. $20 general admission tickets are on sale now at local North Fork businesses (see below). A limited number of $25 tickets will be available for purchase at the door.

Tickets are available at: Dellaquila Beauty, 1451 Main Road, Jamesport (631-722-5500); Angela Leather, 140 Main St., Greenport, (631-477-1142); The Village Cheese Shop, 105 Love Lane, Mattituck
