Police: DNA evidence linked Jamesport man to 9-year-old Mattituck burglary

A Jamesport man was arrested on a burglary charge in connection with theft of liquor from a Mattituck restaurant and bar.

Fabian Colon, 37, was arrested and charged with burglary in the third degree after he unlawfully entered a Mattituck restaurant and bar on May 20, 2007 and removed bottles of liquor from the premises, according to Southold Town Police detectives.

The arrest in the 9-year-old case resulted from the police detectives recently obtaining DNA evidence, Southold Police Chief Martin Flatley said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
