(Update: Sept. 1) Due to the inclement weather in the weekend forecast this event has been rescheduled for Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. with a rain date of Oct. 10.

Original story:  Traditionally, Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, and this year it’s going out with a song and a bang at Greenport’s Brecknock Hall.

A free live outdoor musical performance beginning at 7 p.m. on September 4 will honor veterans and current service members, local police, fire department and ambulance volunteers. It will be followed by a 20-minute fireworks show. The annual celebration, hosted by Peconic Landing, is in its fifth consecutive year.

“This event is our way of saying thank you to the North Fork community for its support throughout the year,” said Robert Syron, president and CEO of Peconic Landing. “Bring your families, bring your loved ones and join us for what is always an incredible fireworks show.”

The much-anticipated event is free to all and attracts more than 700 guests each year.2016_0805_Brecknock_end_of_summer_fireworks

The forty-member Atlantic Wind Symphony, which is comprised of musicians from across Long Island will play popular songs by George Gershwin and John Philip Sousa as well as familiar Broadway hits on the patio of Brecknock Hall. According to its website, the Atlantic Wind Symphony is the oldest fully professional concert band on Long Island, having been formed in 1968.

The performance is sponsored by the Brecknock Hall Foundation, which has a mission of maintaining the beautification and preservation of the historic mansion.

Fireworks will take off about 8:15, launched over Peconic Landing’s community pond. Guests are asked to bring a blanket and chairs to make the most of the event. The 20-minute fireworks show is sponsored by Peconic Landing.

A rain date is scheduled for September 6 at 7 p.m.

Peconic Landing is located at 1500 Brecknock Road in Greenport.
