Police searching for man with machete who slashed two people in Greenport

Southold Police are searching for a man who slashed two people with a machete in Greenport last night.

Police said officers responded to 325 Second Street in Greenport at 7:11 p.m. yesterday to investigate a report of a two people being slashed with a machete at that location.

Officers found a man outside the residence and a woman inside bleeding from slash wounds, according to a police press release. Greenport Fire Department responded and brought both victims to Eastern Long Island Hospital. They were both later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

A male suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival, according to the report. He is still at large.

Southold Police detectives are investigating. Police did not release the names of the victims of the assault.
