Southold Police arrested a Southold man on a driving while intoxicated charge after he crashed into a utility pole on Breakwater Road in Mattituck early Sunday morning, according to a police press release issued today.
Police said they responded to a report of a car crashed into a pole in front of 850 Breakwater Road shortly after 6:30 a.m. yesterday. Arriving officers found a vehicle without a driver at the scene of the crash. A short time afterward, police said, Marco Gregorio drove up to the scene in a pick-up truck, intending to tow the crashed vehicle from the scene, police said. Gregorio admitted he had been driving the car involved in the crash, according to the police report.
Gregorio then failed several roadside sobriety tests, police said. He was found to be intoxicated, arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and held for arraignment, according to the report.
The vehicle Gregorio was driving when he returned to the scene was seized pursuant to Suffolk County law when it was determined that Gregorio had been convicted of driving while intoxicated on Dec. 12, 2014.
