One dead, one seriously injured in head-on crash on Main Bayview Road

(Updated) A high-speed, head-on collision on Main Bayview Road this morning left one person dead and another seriously injured.

Southold Town Police and  Southold Fire Department rescue units are on scene and a Suffolk Police MedEvac helicopter is waiting to transport the surviving victim to Stony Brook University Hospital. A Southold Fire Department heavy rescue crew extricated the survivor from an SUV.

Witnesses at the scene said one of the vehicles was traveling at an excessive rate of speed before plowing head-on into an oncoming vehicle.

Main Bayview Road is closed to traffic in both directions following the crash, which occurred near Williamsburgh Drive just before 11:30 this morning.

Editor’s note: Police on Sunday identified the person killed in the crash as Colin J, Ryan, 31, of Massapequa. The survivor was identified as Antigone Amengual, 66, of Southold, who is in critical condition at Stony Brook University Hospital, a hospital spokesperson said Sunday afternoon.
