Southold Dems’ monthly breakfast meeting to host discussion on Suffolk County Agricultural Stewardship Program

This month’s Southold Town Democratic Club breakfast meeting will host a discussion on the Suffolk County Agricultural Stewardship Program and how to implement the program locally.

The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 24 at the Hellenic Snack Bar, 5145 Main Rd, East Marion from 9 to 11 a.m.

The cost is $20 per person and includes a full buffet breakfast.

This month’s guest speaker, Charles Scheer, is a retired nursery grower and past president of the LI Farm Bureau and LI Nursery Association. He serves on a number of New York Farm Bureau Advisory Committees and the American Farm Bureau Greenhouse-Nursery Advisory Committee.

Scheer is a member of the County Legislature’s Water and Land Invasive Advisory Board, the LI Invasive Species Management Area Scientific Review Committee, the NYS Invasive Species Advisory Committee, the Suffolk County and Riverhead Farmland Preservation Committees and Cornell University’s IPM Advisory Council.

He has been President of Cornell Cooperative Extension, Suffolk County and Chair of the CCE Agricultural Stewardship Advisory Board. A resident of Mattituck, Charlie has been a Nursery Specialist for Cornell University Cooperative Extension, served as adjunct faculty at SUNY Farmingdale and General Manager and Shareholder for Half Hollow Nursery, Inc. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and a Master of Science degree in Entomology and Education from the University of Connecticut.

This breakfast is part of a series of monthly events planned by the Southold Town Democratic Club, aimed at bringing local Democrats together to discuss important issues, as well as to educate the public at large, regardless of party affiliation.
