A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Suffolk County, as post-tropical cyclone Hermine lurks about 100 miles south of Montauk Point. Tropical storm conditions are expected today and tonight, according to the National Weather Service.  Northeast winds of 30  mph with gusts up to 45 mph will prevail

Storm surge will batter the shore the next couple of days, likely causing significant dune erosion and overwashes. Flooding of low-lying coastal areas is also likely.

Though there is a 60 percent chance of rain  today, the storm is not expected to bring much rainfall to our area, with only a half-inch to an inch of rain likely.

Cross Sound Ferry Services has canceled three departures from Orient and three from New London today.

PSEG-LI is reporting scattered outages around the island affecting about 800 customers as of 7 a.m., with about 35 customers affected in Southold.
