Southold man killed after car crashes into tree on Route 48 early Wednesday

A 25-year-old Southold man was killed early this morning after his vehicle crashed into a tree on Route 48 around 12:40 a.m, according to police.

Sergio Montenegro-Ochoa, 25, was traveling westbound on Route 48 in Peconic early this morning when his vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

No further information about the accident was immediately available.

Southold Police detectives are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
