Sheriff’s office to host annual open house and family day Sept. 18

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s office is 332 years old this year.

The Sheriff’s office is the highest-ranking law enforcement office in the county and is steeped in historic significance which encompasses more than three centuries of continuous service to Long Island. Sheriff Vincent DeMarco encourages members of the public to attend the open house to learn more about its unique role and the wide array of services it provides to Suffolk’s residents.

The week of Sept. 18 is New York State Sheriff’s Week and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office will hold an open house and family day on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Riverhead correctional facility. The open house takes place rain or shine.

DeMarco encourages members of the public to attend the open house to learn more about its unique role and the wide array of services it provides to Suffolk’s residents.

The event is geared toward people of all ages, and will feature facility tours (ages 12 and over), exhibits, Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team demonstrations, McGruff the Crime Dog, balloon art, face painting, K-9 shows, Project Lifesaver demonstrations, Operation Safe Child ID Cards, Senior ID Cards, drunk buggy obstacle course, an aquatic robot, snacks, giveaways and much more.
