Concerned about the impacts of excess nitrogen from our wastewater? You should be, experts say. Excess nitrogen in our fresh water estuary is blamed for a variety of harmful algal blooms that have had long-lasting impacts on the health of the local marine ecosystem.

Nitrogen impacts will be the topic of a talk given by Nature Conservancy senior research scientist Carl LoBue at a joint dinner meeting of the Southold and Greenport Rotary clubs on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The dinner meeting is open to the public, who can either join Rotarians for dinner ($25 cost) or attend the just talk without dinner at no charge.

Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the talk will begin at 7:30. Non-Rotarians attending the talk only should arrive a few minutes before the 7:30 p.m. start time.

The event takes place at Sound View Restaurant, County Route 48 in Greenport.

Advance registration is required. Please call 631-735-9061 or Dr. Bill Zitek 631-749-2766 to register.
