Southold Town Police extinguished a kitchen fire at Scrimshaw restaurant on Main Street in Grenport early this morning, according to a police press release issued today.
Police responded to a fire alarm at the restaurant shortly after 1 a.m. Officers gained entry and observed a kitchen fire, which they were able to put out with a fire extinguisher.
Greenport Fire Department Chief Wayne Miller asked the Suffolk County Police arson section to investigate the fire, police said. A Suffolk Police detective found no evidence of criminality, according to the release.
The case is under further investigation by the Southold Town Police detectives.
