Say boo! Spooky parade marches in Greenport this Halloween weekend

Get ready for a spook-tacular Halloween weekend in Greenport.

Greenport BID is sponsoring the March of the Goblins and Hounds, a costumed parade for kids and pets in Village of Greenport on Oct. 29.

The costumed parade will be judged, with awards for scariest, funniest and most creative costume in three age brackets (3 to 6-years-old, 7 to 11-years-old and 12 to 15-years old). Pets costumes will also be judged based on these criteria. Beware — owners are expected to dress up to compliment their pets.

The winners of the BID’s online Jack O’ Lantern contest will also be announced following the parade. Think you have the best pumpkin decorating skills in Greenport? Take a picture of your finished pumpkin and submit it to cwaloski@earthlink.net for it to be judged by the board. The contest categories are for the scariest, funniest and most creative pumpkin.

The event will kick of Saturday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. in Mitchell Park near the carousel. Village of Greenport is donating one free ride on the carousel to each parade participant under the age of 15 before the parade begins, so be sure to arrive early.

The parade will step off from Mitchell Park, march down Front Street will end at 1:45 in Capital One Bank parking lot.
