A man brandishing cutting shears attempted to drag a woman into a wooded area in Greenport, threatening to rape and kill her, Southold Town Police said in a press release.
Responding officers located Jose Amadeo Perez, 38, in the area and arrested him on attempted assault, unlawful imprisonment, menacing and harassment charges, according to the report.
Police said the attack took place at 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Route 25 in Greenport. Officers responding to a call about a man physically attacking a woman found a 27-year-old woman who recounted the attack by an unknown man. Police searched the area and found Amadeo Perez nearby.
Amadeo Perez, a Southold resident, was arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing, where he was held for arraignment.
