One in every four deaths in the United States is caused by heart disease, according to the American Heart Association. And regular exercise is one way to prevent becoming that one.

So why not take advantage of the North Fork’s beautiful fall weather and our lovely local scenery to join the AHA’s eighth annual Healing Heart 5K run/walk?

This year, the run/walk will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, on the grounds of Pugliese Vineyards in the heart of the Long Island wine country in Cutchogue. Hundreds of runners are expected on this new course through the Vineyard. This year, runners will run both through the vineyard and on the local roads.

Day of event registration begins at 9 a.m., with the fun run for children 10 and under beginning at 10:45 a.m. and the 3.1 mile off road race beginning at 11 a.m. Live music will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring Donna Lee and Kenny Hendricks from That 70’s Band, who will perform as The Perfect Combination.

Following the race, an awards ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m., with awards being given to the top male and female runners along with the top runners in various age categories. A health expo will also be available during the event open to all participants as well as music for everyone to enjoy afterward.

The Healing Heart 5K hopes to raise awareness that heart disease is the number one killer of men and women across the country and here on Long Island. The event creates a culture of health and physical activity, giving families the opportunity to participate in heart healthy activities together.
