On Nov. 17 and 18 the Mattituck Jr. High Players will present “Hollow’s Rising,” an original play written by Mattituck high school senior Ryan Buchholz.

The play, which is directed by senior Cheyenne Harris, is about a group of curious kids who sneak into a graveyard to find the legendary headless horseman and, according to Ryan, “They meet other people also in search of the horseman and then…stuff happens!”

Seventeen-year-old Ryan, who aspires to be an English teacher, has been writing since elementary school and is elated to see his play performed.

“When I was a kid I used to write stories and then in junior high I started writing scripts. So when the school was thinking about doing a Legend of Sleepy Hollow production, I read the script and thought that I could do better. It’s an amazing experience to see my script come to life. It’s definitely nothing I ever imagined when I started writing as a kid. I hope to be writing in the future as well.”

Showtimes are Thursday, Nov. 17 and Friday, Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door and admission is $8 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students or the donation of a non-perishable food item.
