Students of Mercy on Mission at Bishop McGann-Mercy Diocesan High School Wednesday presented the Northport V.A. Medical Center’s Hungry Hero project with a $13,000 donation. The presentation came at ceremonies at the school to honor East End veterans.
Mercy on Mission students raised the funds during the 2015-16 school year.
Joseph Sledge, public affairs officer at the Northport V.A. Medical Center, thanked the students for their donation.
Suffolk County president of Vietnam Veterans of America Richard Kitson spoke to the students about the importance of remembering veterans in need and remembering to thank them for their service.
Mercy on Mission has designated Maureen’s Haven as the beneficiary of its fundraising efforts in the current school year, said Mercy on Mission moderator Michele Nappi. Maureen’s Haven, which helps provide shelter for the homeless on the East End including many veterans.
