Seven-year-old Elijah has a Secret Santa.
After reading about the pup who has been waiting nearly four years to find his forever family, a Virginia woman has stepped up to pay his entire adoption fee in the hopes that it will help find him a new home for the holidays.
Elijah was recently featured in a nationwide campaign to find homes for dogs who have spent far too long in shelters waiting to be adopted. The Dogington Post, an informational website, teamed up with Wellness Natural Pet Food for a “Twelve Dogs of Christmas” campaign to find homes for 12 dogs that have been overlooked for a variety of reasons — or no apparent reason at all.
After reading about Elijah’s heartrending situation, his benefactor contacted the North Fork Animal Welfare League, asking if she could help.
“I cannot adopt him, but I want to specifically sponsor him by paying his $100 adoption fee. Maybe that would be an extra incentive for a loving forever family to come get him,” she wrote. “I truly hope he gets adopted by a loving family before the holidays. That would be the best present!”
If you would like to meet Elijah or any of the other animal residents, you can contact the North Fork Animal Welfare League through their website.
