The East End can expect 7 to 11 inches of snow accumulation today from a coastal storm moving toward the Northeast, according to a new forecast from the National Weather Service issued early this morning.
The low pressure system off the southeastern U.S. coast this morning will track northeast today, passing south and east of Long Island this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Upton.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 a.m. today until 1 a.m. tomorrow. The warning area has been extended westward to encompass all of Long Island.
Visibilities will be reduced to one-quarter mile or less at times during the late morning and afternoon, when heavy snow will blanket our area.
North winds of 10 to 20 mph are expected with gusts up to 30 mph.
Temperatures today will remain in the lower 20s.
A small craft advisory is in effect for eastern Long Island Sound from this afternoon through tomorrow afternoon.
The weather service is keeping an eye on another storm system expected to affects the region Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with another slowly approaching the area Thursday through Friday.
