Each year for the past 15 years tens of thousands of people from all over the world visit the New York Times Travel Show at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan, and this year representatives from two local organizations are there to promote the North Fork.

Abigail Field, executive director of the North Fork Promotion Council, and businesswomen Linda Kessler, Caroline Waloski and Yvonne Lieblein from the Greenport Business Improvement District, are sharing an exhibitor’s booth at this year’s show, which runs from Jan. 27 to Jan. 29. Their display features a slide show of images of the North Fork, posters, promotional materials and raffle prizes donated by local businesses.

“It’s great to be at the New York Times Travel Show with the NFPC because you’re getting to talk to people in person about visiting the North Fork, spending time in Greenport, what is it like to be there,” said Lieblein. “That face-to-face contact is priceless.”

The show, which the NFPC and the BID have participated in for more than 10 years, features exhibitors from all over the world and is attended by travel industry experts, journalists and consumers. Visitors can attend seminars, book signings and demonstrations and find out information about traveling to hundreds of places, including the North Fork.

“People don’t realize how close the North Fork is to places like Manhattan so we have a map to show them,” adds Lieblein. “Visitors are very excited and we can answer their questions about cuisine, places to visit with their families and talk to them about beaches and boating. Since I grew up in Greenport it’s great when people can see it through my eyes; they see the respect I have for the place. People get that.”

Last year’s show featured more than 500 exhibitors from 150 countries, 260 travel industry experts and more than 900 journalists from six continents.
