An appreciative crowd danced the night away at the ninth annual Rockin’ for the Homeless event at Polish Hall Saturday.
The event raised about $9,000 for John’s Place, the East End’s homeless outreach program, said Caren Heacock, one of the evening’s organizers. John’s Place provides meals, clothing and other support services to a population of homeless people on the North Fork. The money raised was a blessing, Heacock said.
As they have every year since the event began, popular local bands Who Are Those Guys and Gene Casey and the Lone Sharks donated their time and talent for the evening. This year they were joined by Blue Moon Rising. The three bands provided music for the audience for four hours. Lisa Dabrowski of WLNG was the guest emcee. When guests weren’t on the dance floor, they enjoyed burgers or kielbasa sandwiches.
Funds were raised by ticket sales, a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction.
