Richard ‘Dick’ Earl Brown, 94

Richard “Dick” Earl Brown of Laurel died February 10, 2017. He was 94 years old.

He was born and raised in Ithaca, New York where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He completed a year of college before joining the U.S. Air Force where he served as a radio operator in World War II. After the war, he continued his education at Ithaca College where he played baseball and basketball. He met and married his wife Jean there.

He was a physical education teacher and coach in Bellport schools for more than 30 years. He moved to Laurel in 1960 where he and Jean raised their five children. In his spare time, he enjoyed welcoming friends and family to the Brown house, watching his favorite teams play, looking out over the bay, reading and watching the gulls.

Predeceased by his wife Jean in 2010, he is survived by his children Robert (Mary Kay), Tim (Kathy), Susan Connolly (John), Richard (Ann) and Michael (Daniella), his grandchildren Matthew, Hannah, Megan, Jeffery, Emily, Abigail, Lindsay, Lucas and Tyler and his great-grandchild Harrison.

A memorial will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home. Military honors will take place at 4 p.m. and a service will be held at 6 p.m. Interment of cremains will take place on Friday, Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to East End Hospice. The family wishes to thank his caregivers, nurses and doctors, especially Madonna.
