Mattituck lost the small schools championship to Mount Sinai 59-42 at the Suffolk County Community College sports arena last night in Brentwood.
Mount Sinai won bragging rights to that title as the Tuckers just couldn’t get their mojo working. At halftime Mattituck trailed by 8 and needed to come out strong to get back in the game. But it was not to be as Mount Sinai pulled away in the second half and never looked back.
Liz Dwyer finished the game with 14 points. Corrine Reda had 9 and Jane DiGregorio 8 points.
In tournament play, last night’s title game was just a tune-up for the upcoming Long Island Class B final set for Monday at SUNY/Old Westbury, where Mattituck (19-3) will face Carle Place (14-7). Tip-off is 5 p.m. There is a $6 admission charge.
