Despite the bitter cold, hundreds turned out for Cutchogue Fire Department’s 21st annual chief’s steak night fundraiser tonight.

Neighbors and friends enjoyed local wines and beer while waiting for their dinners, while volunteers were hard at work out back at the grill struggling with wind and freezing temperatures.

John Lademann, who has been manning the grills for all 21 years of the event said it was the coldest it’s ever been for steak night.

“We’ve even grilled in the snow,” he said. “But never before in temperatures like this.”

Inside it was warm and inviting as dozens of volunteers worked hard prepping plates, serving and clearing up.
