Mattituck, once again came back from being down, at one point by eight, and pulled off a stunning victory over Carle Place.
The Tuckers started slow, with the teams getting the feel of one another, as few i were scored in the first half by both teams with Mattituck taking a 19-16 lead into the locker room.
Carle Place came out shooting as the lead bounced back and fourth with Mattituck finally taking a five-point lead in to the fourth quarter. As the fourth quarter progressed, Carle Place ate away at the Mattituck lead to get within in a few points, but a Liz Dwyer foul shot put Mattituck up by three, 48-45. Carle Place took the inbound pass with two clicks left on the clock and put up a long shot for the tie. They sank the basket with everyone in the gym thinking it was a three-point shot, but the ref ruled that the shot was taken just inside the three-point line, and Mattituck picked up the victory 48-47.
Mattituck’s next game is Thursday at Old Westbury beginning at 5 p.m. There is a $7 admission.
