Girl Scouts from across the North Fork gathered at Cutchogue East Elementary School yesterday afternoon for their annual International Day celebration.
A record 150 Scouts represented 11 countries from across the globe with displays, food samples costumes and traditional crafts. Parents and friends circulated around the room tasting food prepared by the Scouts and learning a little about each country as they went along.
“It’s a great event,” said Nicole Brewer, whose Troop 1474 represented China. “It’s a way for Scouts from all over the North Fork to meet each other and share ideas. And from all the giggles you can hear in the room, it’s clear the girls enjoy it.”
After a Color Guard flag ceremony and a Parade of Nations, the girls had an opportunity to perform a song, skit or dance to demonstrate something they’d learned about their country.
The event, which was attended by more than 250 people, wrapped up with a wacky games activity.
