Southold Town police blotter: Feb. 26 – March 4

Excerpts from the Southold Town Police Press Reports, March 5, 2017

On Feb. 28 a Greenport man reported to police that he received an email from Publishers Clearing House saying that he won a million dollars and was required to send $520 to the company to get his prize. After sending the money, he received a second email saying that the had to send another $700 and at that time he realized it was a scam.

Some time between Feb. 17 and Feb. 27 the windshield of a Southold Town Highway Department truck in the mechanics shop was damaged. Police are investigating.

On March 1 a Peconic Landing employee reported to police that she had received three phone calls at work from an elderly man accusing her of stealing $100 from a woman in Babylon. Police found that the caller was looking for another woman with the same first name. Police referred the man to the Suffolk County Police Department.
