On a breezy, cold afternoon, the Center Moriches bats were hot, starting the game with two quick runs off of Mattituck home opener starting pitcher Ashley Chew.

Mattituck’s bats woke up in the third inning as they scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead heading into the fourth inning. Center Moriches scored a run to tie the score 3-3 after four. The top of the fifth brought a pitching change by the Tuckers, who brought in Alexis Burns to handle damage control, but Center Moriches would have none of it as they surged for five runs to make it 8-3. The score remained that way until the bottom of the sixth until Mattituck’s bats woke up for what looked like a big rally, and scored three runs to make it 8-6. That would be the closest that Mattituck would get, as Center Moriches had a 7th inning rally, scoring five more runs, and shutting down Mattituck to preserve a 13-6 victory.

Mattituck’s next home game is Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against Babylon.
