Shoreham-Wading River defeated Mattituck 14-8 at Mattituck High School yesterday.

Two equally talented teams played a very tight, defense-oriented first half to a 5-5 tie. There was back and fourth scoring with both teams grabbing the lead, and the other looking to regain the tie.

But in the second half, it was a much stronger Shoreham squad that came out flying. Crisp passing, fast breaks upfield, and some solid goaltending made this their game.

Mattituck struggled with passing, unlike in the first half, and they couldn’t get past midfield at times. With a goalie change after Shoreham made it 9-5, Mattituck was looking to jumpstart the offense, but it wasn’t to be. Shoreham pounded Mattituck with five more goals, to Mattituck’s three, most of them coming in the last three minutes of the game. Shoreham held on for the win, 14-8.

Mattituck’s next home game is Friday, April 21 at 5 p.m. against Elwood/John Glenn.
