Cops: Man punched store clerk in the face, charged with assault

A Greenport man is facing an assault charge after punching a store clerk in the face during a dispute, according to Southold Town Police.

Police said a man who didn’t have enough money to buy a pack of cigars at Mr. Roberts on Front Street Thursday evening punched a clerk there in the face. The clerk’s injuries required five stitches, according to the police report.

Karon Grant, 31, was located by police and arrested on a charge of third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, police said.

The clerk was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital by Greenport Fire Department.
