Jo-Anne J. Cain died at home on April 8, 2017 after being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2012. She was 74 years old.
She was born on March 9, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to J. Ralph and Anne Pion.
After high school, she joined a convent, Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and attended Mary Grove College. She went on to teach in Detroit and Chicago inner city schools.
After meeting her husband and moving to Riverhead, she became very involved with St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. For over 40 years, she volunteered in the parish for song and ministering to the sick and home-bound. She volunteered at the Riverhead Nursing Home. She was a recipient of the Saint Agnes Medal of Service award in the Diocese of Rockville Centre in 2010.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, and daughter, Johanna.
A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Riverhead.
Arrangements were entrusted to Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home.
