Greenport’s sixth annual Waiter Race set for June 3

Concentration, a steady hand and fast feet were on display at the 2016 Waiter Race in Greenport.

Greenport’s sixth annual North Fork Waiter Race has been set for Saturday, June 3.

The unique and popular race is a fundraiser for Eastern Long Island Hospital and hosted by The Market.

Entrants will attempt to balance a beverage-filled stemmed wine glass on a serving tray and race to the finish line without spilling the beverage. The course begins at the Opportunity Shop on Main Street, runs down Main Street to the end, then doubles back to Front Street, then along Front Street to the finish line at The Market.

Last year the race raised $1,300 for the hospital. (See prior story with photos and video here.) Cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100 were awarded to the first- second- and third-place finishers.

Competitors should meet on Main Street at the Opportunity Shop. The entry fee is $50. There will be prizes awarded for first, second and third place.
