Southold Town police blotter: April 24 – April 30

Excerpts from the Southold Town Police Press Reports, April 30, 2017

An anonymous caller alerted police to an elderly man walking near Skunk Lane in Cutchogue on April 24. The caller said the man seemed disoriented. Police responded but were unable to locate the wandering man.

A Greenport man called police on April 25 to report that he thought he was being followed in the area of Spanos gas station. Police responded and escorted the man home after checking the area and not finding any suspects.

On April 26 a Greenport woman noticed police that a fraudulent check was deposited into her bank account and an unknown person tried to withdraw money. When she checked her wallet for her debit card she discovered it was missing; she had last used it at the IGA in Greenport. The victim reported that no money was missing from her account and that a hold had been placed on the card. Detectives will continue to investigate.

A Southold business owner called police  on April 27 to report that an employee had been ordering, selling, shipping and profiting from the owner’s products. Detectives were notified and are investigating.

On April 27 a worker at King Kullen in Cutchogue called police to report that a car registered to a Shelter Island man had been parked in their parking lot for four months. The owner could not be located; police advised the worker to have the car towed away.

A Southold man reported to police on April 28 that the door to his Route 48 office had been pried open, doing $200 worth of damage. Nothing appeared to be missing from the office.

On April 29, an officer on routine patrol found a Greenport man causing a disturbance in Mitchell Park. The officer asked the man to leave, and he complied. No further action was taken.

On April 30, a Greenport woman phoned police to report that someone left their underwear in the area of her chicken coop. The underwear appeared to have been there for about three to six months and was wrapped around a tree and embedded in the soil. Police have no suspects. 

A Cutchogue woman reported to police that on April 28 and 29, someone stole $1,150 worth of jewelry and watches from her residence during a tag sale. Detectives were notified.
