Cops: Greenport man, 21, punched officer twice in the head, arrested for assault

A 21-year-old Greenport man is charged with felony assault after punching a Southold Town Police officer twice in the head last night in Greenport, according to a police report.

Police officers responded to a report of a fight in the vicinity of Main and Front streets at about 11:45 p.m. on May 12.

Upon arrival, pedestrians flagged down officers and identified one of the subjects involved, who was walking north on Main Street, according to the report.

When the officer advised the subject to stop in order to investigate his involvement in the fight, police said, the man approached the officer in an irate manner and suddenly punched the officer in the head two times with a closed fist.

After being advised he was under arrest, the man refused to place his hands being his back and struggled with the officers at the scene, police said. He was eventually handcuffed and taken into custody, according to the report.

Christian Davis was charged with assault on a police officer and resisting arrest, police said. He was transported to Southold Town Police Headquarters where he was held for morning arraignment.
