Firefighters, veterans and community leaders gathered at the war memorial in Mattituck this morning for a wreath-laying ceremony which was immediately followed by the Southold Town Memorial Day parade. The Mattituck High School band played from underneath tents as the wreath was laid and a three-gun salute was executed.

A steady rain fell as the parade made its way through Mattituck and a small group of onlookers under umbrellas watched. Fire departments from across the North Fork, Scout troops, auxiliaries and local leaders marched despite the downpour.
