Balancing a beverage-filled stemmed glass and a bottle on a tray while race-walking down uneven streets without spilling a drop is no easy feat. But the servers who competed in the waiter race in Greenport this morning made it look easy.
Onlookers cheered the twenty-odd servers at the sixth annual North Fork Waiter Race, which began at the Opportunity Shop on Main Street and ended on Front Street at The Market. The race is styled after similar events that began in Paris over a century ago.
David Galicia from Agave Grill was the first to cross the finish line with the glass and bottle upright and no spills on his tray.
Crazy Beans’ Edgar Pocasangre came in second followed by Elton McIntyre of Claudio’s Restaurant.
The race is a fundraiser for Eastern Long Island Hospital and is hosted by The Market.
