Three DWI arrests top police blotter

Excerpts from the Southold Town Police Press Reports, May 29, 2017

Southold Town Police reported three DWI arrests last week, including one driver who left the scene of a crash.

Police said Medardo X. Torres-Coronel, 20 of Riverhead was arrested on May 28 at about 7:15 p.m. after police received complaints about his vehicle failing to maintain its lane of travel and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident. He was observed driving at a high rate of speed on Route 25 near Indian Neck Lane and was pulled over, according to the report. He was found to be intoxicated and arrested on a DWI charge, police said.

Antonio J. Argueta, 45, of Bellport was charged with DWI after a traffic stop for exceeding the posted speed limit and an equipment violation on Route 48 and Carrol Avenue on May 28 at about 4 p.m., according to the police report. Police determined Argueta was intoxicated and arrested him on a DWI charge, according to the report.

Gilberto Gregorio-Ramirez, 32, of Southold, was arrested on DWI and unlicensed operation charges after he was observed failing to maintain his lane of travel on Route 25 near Main Bayview Road on May 26 just before 10 p.m., police said. He was found to be intoxicated and placed under arrest, according to the report.

On May 23 a Peconic man alerted police that he had received a forged check in the amount of $1,200. No further details were provided.

A Greenport woman phoned police on May 23 to report that while she was walking along Front Street near Mr. Roberts Convenience store, one member of a group of youths walking past her hit her on the back of the knee as they went by. She requested that police speak to the youth about his rude behavior. Police searched the area for the youth in question but was unable to locate him.

An anonymous call came in to police on May 23 to report that two subjects in a small red car near the beach in Laurel were possibly smoking marijuana. Police responded and found no vehicles at the location.

An employee at a Southold business reported to police on May 24 that he had received a call from someone stating they represented PSE&G. The person requested that money be sent via wire transfer and threatened to turn off power at the location if it wasn’t sent. No further details were available.

On May 26 police received a report from the Southold Highway Department of the word “RAMES” spray painted on several signs on Naugles Drive in Mattituck.

On May 27, a Greenport man called police to report that a car was missing from his residence. Further investigation revealed that the caller’s grandson had taken the car without permission.

A Greenport restaurant owner phoned police on May 27 to report that an unknown male subject had dumped three wood pallets on his property.  There was nothing further to report.

A Mattituck resident called police to report that on May 27 she found an unknown type of dead animal in a tarp across from her residence. Police determined the animal to be a dead gopher which appeared to have been killed by a vehicle. Southold Town Highway Department was notified for a pickup.

On May 27 police received a complaint that multiple subjects were urinating on the street next to a limousine pulled over at the side of the road in Cutchogue. The subjects denied urinating and the officer warned them about continuing the activity.

On May 27 a Southold man called police to report that $1,500 worth of damage had been done to his garage door windows. He believes it happened when a lawnmower shot small stones up as it passed by.

A Greenport man called police on May 27 to report that his wife, who has dementia, was missing. While officers were responding, the man called back and said that she had returned home.

A Greenport man phoned police on May 27 to report that as he was driving on Third Street, someone shined a green laser into his car window. Police responded and canvassed the area, but found nothing.

On May 28, a Greenport woman dialed 911 to report that someone was on the roof of her house looking into her window. Police responded and determined that the suspect was known to the woman and therefore she did not wish to press charges.

A Greenport man phoned police on May 28 to report seeing someone climbing into the window of a residence. Officers responded and were advised that the person lived at the residence and used the open window to get inside. No further information was reported.

Several police units were dispatched to a Cutchogue location on May 29 when a 911 operator received a call from an open line. Police were unable to communicate with the caller and dispatch heard background noise. The cell phone was tracked down and the owner stated that he was fine and had been shopping at King Kullen. No further action was taken.
