Southold Town Police are investigating an apparent arson fire in Peconic last night.
Police said “an old abandoned cottage had been been set on fire” at 1005 Mill Lane in Peconic. Police and firefighters responded to a report of smoke in the area at about 8:07 p.m.
Southold Fire Department extinguished the fire, police said.
“Further investigation found that an unknown person(s) also had intentionally attempted to ignite another nearby small structure,” police said in a press release.
Southold Town Police detectives and Suffolk County Arson Squad detectives are investigating.
