Cops: Calverton woman charged with DWI, drug possession

A Calverton woman was arrested for DWI and possession of a controlled substance Wednesday after Southold Town Police observed her failing to maintain her lane of travel on County Road 48, according to a police press release.

Southold police said they responded to a report of a vehicle “all over the roadway” on CR 48 Wednesday at about 6:30 p.m. The officer observed an eastbound vehicle moving unsafely from its lane of travel, police said. The driver, Barbara Hennessy, 71, was found to be intoxicated and also in possession of a controlled substance, according to the report.

Hennessy was arrested on charges of DWI and criminal possession of a controlled substance and transported back to Southold Town Police headquarters, where she was processed and held for arraignment, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
