Update: Police ID apparent drowning victim in Cutchogue

Updated (July 13, 4:45 p.m.) The man pulled unconscious from the water at a Long Island Sound beach in Cutchogue Wednesday afternoon, was pronounced dead at Peconic Bay Medical Center, Southold Town police said in a press release.

Police identified the man Thursday as Ellis Roudette, age 84, of the Bronx.

Witnesses at the Duck Pond Road beach observed a man floating face down in the water, pulled him to shore and began CPR, police said. Responding officers and Cutchogue Fire Department also administered CPR, police said.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he was subsequently pronounced dead, police said.
