David Owen Edwards of Ridge died at Stony Brook University Hospital on July 11, 2017 after a two and a half year illness. He was 61 years old.
He was born at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport on December 24, 1955 to Sarah Lee (nee Waller) and Charles West Edwards.
He was a graduate of Greenport High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1974-77 and was a retired professional truck driver with Suffolk Transportation and Home Depot.
He was a member of Clinton Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Greenport and served on the trustee board and sang in the male chorus.
He is survived by his wife Jacqueline A. Edwards (nee Fields) whom he married on June 29, 1991 at Clinton Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, his daughter Yolanda of Raleigh, North Carolina, his siblings Charles Allen Edwards (Denise) of Greenport, Jean D. Edwards of Riverhead, Charlene Edwards of Fort Washington, Maryland and Sharon Stephens (Craig) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and in-laws.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. Homegoing services will be celebrated on Monday, July 17 at 11 a.m. at Clinton Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church. Interment will follow at the Southold Presbyterian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Clinton Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in support of its Sunday School would be appreciated.
