A Shoreham man was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital yesterday following a crash on Route 25 in Orient.
Southold Town Police said Thomas A. Ianniello, 23, was operating a 2012 Kawaski motorcycle westbound on Route 25 Sunday morning at about 8:30 when he attempted to pass a westbound pickup truck. The pickup then attempted to make a left turn into a farm field, according to police, and collided with the motorcycle. The bike left the roadway and crashed into a pile of tree branches, police said.
Iannello’s injuries were not life-threatening, according to police.
Both Ianniello and the driver of the pickup, Francisco J. Sanchez, 62, were issued traffic tickets, according to the police report, which did not provide information about the nature of the summonses.
