Southold Town Police blotter: July 10 – July 16

Excerpts from the Southold Town Police Press Reports, July 16, 2017

An East Marion man reported that between July 7 and July 8, someone stole a Coleman cooler valued at $50 from the unlocked trunk of a vehicle parked at his residence. The cooler also contained $30 worth of groceries. Police have no suspects.

On July 10 an Orient woman mistakenly called 911 to complain about traffic from the lavender farm in East Marion. She told police that she thought she had dialed 311.

Di Angela Leather owners phoned police on July 13 to report that on April 23 and June 19, a man and a woman stole 11 wallets totaling $440 from their Greenport shop.

On July 11, an unidentified caller reported seeing an airplane drop a package in Long Island Sound off Horton’s Point in Southold and a high speed boat picking something up. Police responded and interviewed subjects on two boats, but neither had seen anything. Police found only a bunch of balloons in the water at Horton’s Point.

A Greenport woman reported on July 11 that someone scratched her car while it was parked on First Street overnight. Police responded and found the car had a 12 inch long scratch and a small scuff mark.

A Southold man reported that on July 11 someone slashed the fabric top on his vehicle.

On July 11 an officer on patrol in Greenport observed a homeless man sitting in Mitchell Park with a sign and a pot asking for donations. Police interviewed the man, who decided to move on.

A Greenport man was arrested on July 12 after an officer on foot patrol observed him urinating in close proximity to the carousel in Mitchell Park.

A Mattituck man called police on July 15 to report finding suspicious footprints on his property. Police found evidence of multiple subjects having used the man’s yard as a shortcut. No damage was found and police believe that the trespassers were probably the same group of youths who were reported to have been knocking on neighborhood doors the same night.

On July 15 police responded to a report of a burglary on North Bayview Road in Southold. A resident said that someone stole a generator and several fishing rods and reels from his detached garage. The total value of the stolen items was estimated to be nearly $6,000.

Police received an anonymous call on July 16 reporting a man passed out in Mitchell Park. Police found a Greenport man who was highly intoxicated and transported him to his residence.

A Greenport man reported on July 16 that someone damaged two bird baths on his Main Street property. The damage was estimated to be $250.

On July 16, a Greenport man reported to police that two drunk individuals were yelling at him at the Greenport 7-11. Police responded but were unable to locate the subjects.
